Bling Yer Blog – Collections II

For the Bling Yer Blog assignment, I did not know exactly what I wanted to do right away. Before this assignment was even given (during the creation of the blog) I had already looked through all the themes, chose the one I wanted, and changed my header. So, I already had the blog looking pretty much like I wanted it to.

I decided to revisit the themes to see if I wouldn’t mind changing it, but after previewing various themes, I preferred the one that I had originally chose. So, I decided to play around with the widgets. I tried some out, but the only one I really liked was the Archives widget. I liked that it allowed me to see my posts by month. It is perfect for the purposes of this class because I (and you) can go to various months and find assignments by due dates.

I also decided to create a new page. I titled it “What’s This Blog About.” I added a menu to the top of my page so individuals visiting the page can understand the reason for posting the blog posts I have. I know I only made a few changes, but I think they’re practical changes that actually benefit the page, which I think is important.

  1. Well done! The idea behind the assignment is simply to expand your understanding of the options available to you so you’ll be able to accommodate changing needs in the future. You made solid choices here based on utility.

One thing I would consider, though: changing the title of your site… “My Blog” is kind of generic 🙂

    1. I attempted to change the name during the Bling Yer Blog assignment, but had a scary instance where I thought I deleted the blog all together. Haha. I wasn’t having much luck figuring out how to change that particular aspect of the blog. :/

  2. Hi Misty,

I also chose Bling Yer Blog for a choice assignment. It was nice to have an excuse to learn more about my blog and make it look better. I found that installing certain plugins really helps make the blog stand out. My favorite is called Jetpack. It’s free and it gives you more widget options. I’m not sure what your blog looked like before you blinged it, but it looks good. I agree with Chris that you should get rid of “My Blog.” On your Dashboard, go to “Customize” and change it by clicking on “Site Identity.” Also, I found YouTube super helpful when I couldn’t figure out how to do something on WordPress.

    1. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction for how to change the title. I was able to successfully change the name of my site.
